New Horizons-Airport Update 11/29/2025
A New Chapter Is Taking Flight at Limington-Harmon Airport (63B)
If you’ve driven past the runway lately or heard a little buzz online, you already know something new is taking shape at Limington-Harmon Airport. 2026 is going to be a big year for 63B—for pilots, neighbors, and our wider Limington community.
This first post on fly63B.com is our chance to pull back the curtain, share what’s coming, and invite you to be part of it from the ground up.
A New Flight School & Rental Program at 63B
Beginning January 15, 2026, Limington-Harmon Airport will be home to a brand-new aviation hub:
· North Coast Aero – a membership-based aircraft rental program
· Technique Only – Sport Pilot Academy – a flight school built for the weekend warrior and nontraditional pilot
Both are designed around one simple idea:
Keep Flying Fun, Keep Flying Safe, and Keep Flying Affordable
North Coast Aero: Just Show Up and Fly
North Coast Aero is our answer to a problem a lot of pilots face: owning an airplane is expensive, and traditional rentals are often stressful, complicated, and scattered.
Instead, we’re building a membership-based rental program at Limington-Harmon Airport with a simple promise:
You handle the fun part—we’ll handle the rest.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
· Membership model, not a club with red tape
Members pay a modest annual fee to join North Coast Aero. In return, they gain access to a growing fleet of well-equipped airplanes based right here at 63B. No buy-in, no multi-year commitment, and no surprise “gotcha” fees.
· Transparent, rock-bottom hourly rates
Our goal is to offer some of the most affordable airplane rentals in the Northeast. Because we centralize maintenance, insurance, and scheduling, we can pass operational savings directly to our members.
· Everything waiting for you when you arrive
When you book an aircraft, you’re not just renting a plane. You can expect:
o A clean, fueled airplane
o A quality headset
o An iPad with updated charts and EFB software
o Safety vest and any gear required for that day’s conditions
You show up at Limington-Harmon, grab the keys, complete your preflight, and go fly the beautiful coast and countryside of Maine and beyond.
Built for real life, not just logbooks
North Coast Aero is designed for hobbyists, weekend adventurers, hour building, and rusty pilots getting back into the air. Want to take a friend for a sunset flight? Pop over to the islands for a lobster roll? Keep the plane overnight at no additional costs? Knock out some practice approaches? This program is for you.
As our membership grows, so will the variety of aircraft available—from basic trainers to more capable cross-country machines and specialty aircraft.
Technique Only – Sport Pilot Academy
Right alongside North Coast Aero, we’re launching Technique Only – Sport Pilot Academy: a flight school that captures the spirit of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s—when aviation felt a little simpler, friendlier, and closer to the grassroots.
Here’s what makes Technique Only different:
From Sport Pilot all the way to MEI
We’ll start with Sport Pilot training and build upward, all the way through advanced instructor ratings like MEI (Multi-Engine Instructor) as the program grows. Think of Technique Only as a long-term training home, not a quick-stop factory.
Focused on the weekend warrior & nontraditional pilot
We’re not chasing the “airline pipeline” model. Our heart is with:
o Parents who’ve always dreamed of flying
o Hobbyists and aviation geeks
o Retirees chasing a lifelong goal
o Busy folks who can only train nights and weekends
Training schedules will be flexible, with an emphasis on making aviation fit real life.
Specialized flying coming Summer 2026
As we ramp up, we’re planning specialized training including:
o Amphibious operations
o Backcountry flying
o Taildragger training
If you’ve ever wanted to land on a remote strip, splash down on a quiet lake, or master the art of a tailwheel, Technique Only aims to make that happen—right here in Limington.
Atmosphere matters
Our culture is built on mentorship, community, and that old-school airport feel: coffee in the FBO, hangar talk after lessons, and a place where families and friends feel welcome.
Both North Coast Aero and Technique Only – Sport Pilot Academy officially go live January 15, 2026. You’ll see much more about sign-ups, discovery flights, and memberships on this site and our social channels in the weeks ahead.
Planning Board, Storage, and the Golf Simulator: Let’s Talk About It
Many of you saw us at the Limington Planning Board recently. We’ll be back again on December 1, 2025 for public comment, and we want to be transparent about exactly what we’re asking for and why.
Indoor Storage for All Units
We have applied for approval to offer indoor storage in all our hangars and units.
Right now, the town’s position is that we are not allowed to rent hangars for non-aviation uses. If that interpretation stands:
· Many existing tenants would be immediately displaced
· The additional income from renting portions of Buildings 1, 2, & 3 would disappear
· The airport would face extreme financial hardship at a critical moment in its revival
Historically, previous airport operators have allowed a mixture of uses, and we believe preventing that entirely is a serious overreach. However, in a good-faith effort to work with the town, we are going through the formal applications process instead of fighting it in the shadows.
If you’re a tenant, neighbor, or local resident who cares about seeing Limington-Harmon survive and thrive, your voice at that meeting truly matters.
Why a Golf Simulator at an Airport?
We’re also applying for a golf simulator in the former entrance area of the Play Garden.
A few common questions:
“Why not a flight simulator?”
Flight simulators are coming as part of the flight school. According to the Planning Board chair, “airport activities” are already approved uses, so we don’t need new permission for that. The golf sim is simply an additional way to keep people engaged and the lights on.
“Is this really the best use of airport space?”
The simulator will be in a small, already-walled-off space that doesn’t affect flight operations. With no structural changes, it gives our community something fun to do on rainy and snowy days and adds another revenue stream to support the airport.
“Will this bring extra traffic or people wandering where they shouldn’t?”
Even at peak use, we anticipate only 1–2 extra cars in the main parking lot. With the flight school and FBO staffed, we will have more eyes on the ramp and airfield, not fewer, helping keep things safe and orderly.
“When will it open, and will locals get a discount?”
If approved, we’re aiming for a February 1, 2026 opening and plan to roll out pre-sale discounts for the community.
A Note on Outdoor Storage
Not every idea is a good one—and when you’re building something new, you’re going to try things that don’t always work out the way you hoped. That’s part of the process, and we believe in being honest about both the wins and the lessons.
We did experiment with outdoor storage here at 63B. After seeing it in practice, it became clear that it didn’t look good, didn’t function the way we envisioned, and did not produce meaningful revenue for the airport. For those reasons, outdoor storage will not be continued going forward.
Over the coming weeks, the three trailers currently stored on the property will be moved into the covered parking area in Building 3 or placed inside appropriate indoor space.
At this time, there are no plans to pursue outdoor storage in the future, and we are not seeking any approval from the Planning Board related to outdoor storage.
As always, our goal is to make thoughtful, long-term decisions that protect the appearance, safety, and financial health of Limington-Harmon Airport while being good neighbors to the community.
Lease Your Aircraft to Aerostate
If you’re a pilot or aircraft owner in Maine or New England, you might be in that classic spot:
· Not flying as much as you’d hoped
· Still paying insurance, hangar or tie-down, and annual inspections
· Watching your airplane sit on the ramp more than it flies
We’d love to talk.
Through Aerostate LLC, you can lease your aircraft for use in our rental and training fleet (you decide which roles you’re comfortable with).
· You’re paid hourly when your aircraft flies
· We insure, maintain, and care for the airplane
· You stay involved without carrying the cost of ownership
To start the conversation, email us at limington@aerostateusa.com.
Join the Airport Feedback Committee
We’re still looking for members to join our Airport Feedback Committee.
This is not a governing board; airport management will still make all final decisions. But it is a structured way for us to hear from:
· Hangar tenants
· Abutters and neighbors
· Local businesses and organizations
· Community members who care about what happens at 63B
The ideal committee would include:
· 1–2 hangar tenants
· 1–2 abutters
· 1 representative from each on-field business or organization
· 1–2 community members
If you want thoughtful, constructive communication between the airport and the town, this is a great way to help shape it. Email limington@aerostateusa.com to get involved.
FBO Remodel & Reopening January 15, 2026
Our FBO (Fixed-Base Operator) building is getting a facelift and a fresh purpose.
Pending final permitting, we plan to reopen the FBO on January 15, 2026. Initial hours will focus on Saturdays, plus additional times aligned with flight school operations.
What you can expect:
· A warm, welcoming lobby
· Food and beverage options
· Clean restrooms
· 63B apparel & merchandise
· Coordination of fuel and parking operations
As the flight school and rental program ramp up, we fully expect to expand FBO hours into the summer of 2026.
Fuel Is Coming Back to 63B
It’s been a long wait—way too long—but we’re thrilled to share that 100LL avgas is returning to Limington-Harmon Airport!
We’ve partnered with Titan Fuels to bring branded fuel back to the field. Being branded means:
· Higher quality control standards
· Consistent, reliable fuel
· Extra layers of safety and testing
During FBO hours, we will offer full-service fueling at the same price as self-serve. Depending on how quickly the new payment kiosk is installed, we may start out with full-service only, then add self-serve as equipment comes online.
Either way, we are beyond excited to once again offer 100LL at 63B for our based and transient pilots.
Winter Operations & Snow Removal
New England winters are no joke, and small GA airports like ours must balance safety, cost, and reality. Here’s our snow and runway plan for the upcoming season:
· Snow removal within 48 hours of the end of a snow event
· NOTAMs will be issued when snow removal operations are in progress
· An “Airfield Condition Not Monitored” NOTAM will remain in effect from the first accumulating snow until the end of frost season
· The runway will be untreated—no salt or chemicals will be used during the 2025–2026 season, similar to many small airports in our region
As always, pilots are responsible for evaluating runway conditions and making the final go/no-go decision. If you have questions or concerns, email limington@aerostateusa.com.
We’re Hiring
To bring all of this to life, we’re hiring.
We’re currently looking for:
· Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs)
· Assistant Operations & Property Management staff

Thank You, Limington
Whether you’re a pilot, a neighbor, a tenant, or someone who just likes watching airplanes, thank you for your patience and support as we rebuild Limington-Harmon Airport.
We’re committed to being good stewards of this field—protecting its history, strengthening its future, and making sure it remains a place where families, friends, and flyers can gather for years to come.
